What to wear to a shaadi
A Pakistani shaadi is not one event but a season — dholki, mayoun, mehndi, barat, walima — and each night asks for something different. This edit gathers the pieces that work across a wedding week: three-piece ensembles in raw silk, organza, chiffon and jamawar, embroidered richly enough for photographs but comfortable enough to sit, eat and dance in.
If you are a guest, the rule of thumb is simple: leave bridal red and heavy gold to the bride, then choose freely from emerald, wine, midnight blue, aubergine, dusty rose and champagne. If you are family, you can go heavier — the barat and walima edits carry the most worked pieces.
Shaadi dresses: questions we are asked
What should a wedding guest avoid? Bridal red, heavy bridal gold, and white for a nikkah where the bride wears ivory.
How many outfits do I need? Most guests dress for two or three functions — a lighter piece for mehndi or dholki, and something heavier for barat or walima.
How long does it take? Ready-stock pieces dispatch within 24 hours. Made-to-order pieces are crafted in 6–8 weeks, so order early for a dated event.
